The layoffs mark the second round of mass cuts at Amazon since last October, when the company laid off roughly 14,000 employees across its corporate workforce.

Analysts and AWS watchers agree that the roughly 15,000 cuts are caused by ‘culture’, but there is disagreement about what that actually means.

Amazon is cutting another 16,000 jobs as the technology giant continues to remake itself in “a world that’s changing faster than ever,” as noted in a memo to staff Wednesday from Beth Galetti, who leads human resources operations for the company.

The Seattle-based company said it will cut about 16,000 additional roles as part of its ongoing effort to reduce layers and remove bureaucracy.

Amazon is set to lay off around 16,000 employees globally starting January 27, with corporate teams in India expected to be hit hardest. The expected job losses follow an earlier round in October 2025,
