A winter storm of potentially historic proportions that could rival the fabled Blizzard of 1978 headed into the SouthCoast on Sunday night into Monday morning, slamming Fall River with heavy snow, strong winds and blizzard conditions. Strong east-to-northeast winds was predicted to trigger coastal flooding, especially along parts of Massachusetts.
About 5 inches of snow has fallen in Kansas City, Missouri since Friday, Jan. 23, and 9 inches have fallen in St. Louis, Missouri. In total this year, St. Louis has seen more than a foot and a half of snow. The area could see two more inches of snowfall by 6 p.m. CT Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The Blizzard of 2026 left more than three feet of snow in southeastern Massachusetts.
Large parts of the mid-Atlantic region woke up to over a foot of snow Monday morning, blanketing cars and coating trees and power lines. The snowfall has broken daily records in Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Trenton and Wilmington, but meteorologists say seasonal records are unlikely to fall.
Multiple towns in Massachusetts and Rhode Island notched more than three feet of snow during Monday’s blizzard, capped by a record-setting snowfall near Providence that widely eclipsed a mark set during the infamous Blizzard of 1978.
For the second straight day, the blizzard that pounded New York City, the Lower Hudson Valley and Long Island set several daily snowfall records, according to the National Weather Service.
The highest two-day snowfall record, however, is actually 46 inches in Middletown in March 1888. That snowfall was part of the "Great White Hurricane," a blizzard that caused massive damage throughout the state and killed more than 400 people, according to the Connecticut State Library.
Environment Canada issued yellow snowfall and high-wind warnings across B.C.'s Interior. Between 40 and 60 centimetres of snow is expected to fall on the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt. High winds of 90 km/h are anticipated in the Fraser Canyon with similar alerts issued for the southern Peace region.
